How the index works

How we score automation risk

Each profession in the index is scored 0–100 by how much of its day-to-day work automation could absorb today or in the near future. Scores are built from current O*NET task data, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employment and wage figures, and Anthropic's AI exposure research.

A score measures exposure to automation — not a prediction that a job disappears. Roles built on routine data work and repetitive clerical steps score highest; roles that lean on judgment, physical work in unstructured settings, or human relationships score lowest.

Every profession page adds the timeline we expect the shift to unfold on, the skills worth building next, live demand data, and a typical salary range for context.

Scores map to four levels — Low, Medium, High and Critical — so a quick scan of the ranking tells you where each role sits before you open the page.

The short answer

Is your job safe from AI?

Partly — it depends on the tasks your role actually runs on. In our index, jobs built around routine data processing, transcription and repetitive clerical steps carry the highest exposure; jobs heavy on judgment, dexterity in unpredictable environments, or human relationships score lowest. Find your profession, read its score, and use the skills section to decide what to build next.

If your profession scores high, treat it as a signal to build adjacent skills — not a reason to panic. Most scores sit in the middle band, and every page lists the skills that keep a role relevant, the timeline you are working with, and live demand data showing whether employers are still hiring.
